'COUNTDOWN' BLASPHEMOUS! Little Richardjohn - 503rd post - 22 Dec 2004 12:42
Catholic pressure groups in London have succeded in lobbying get a poster for a contraceptive drug removed from the underground.
So now we're banning puns. ('Immaculate Contraception' was the slogan)
Next it will be anagrams.
'GET NEW
ISTSUSCHJER
THE NEW CALIFORNIAN RED WITH JUST A HINT OF HOLINESS.'
So Channel 4's 'Countdown' will have to go, naturally. Who knows what heresy the Lord of Chaos might throw onto the TV screens of millions.
At the end of the day, religion doesn't seem to work, does it? The people meant to benefit the most from its spiritual comforts are the ones who freak most at the slightest hint that their cosmos is more complicated than they've been told.
Like children afraid of moths at a barbecue.
They are simply over-compensating. Trying to convince themselves that they believe, when they know they don't. Creating some form of identity for themselves in a confusing world.
Classic insecurity, as best expressed in the standard defence of religion that the world is simply 'too bleak' without it.
Any decent blasphemous anagrams out there? First prize an all expense paid trip to hell.
